High Shear Homogenizer History and Function

The High Shear Homogenizer, formally called the Rotor Stator Device, was designed to help the formulation industry achieve specific products. These kinds of products are well-known in our everyday work or when we are mixing different kinds of medicine, or even if we are using some bases with plastics or polymers that have different colors, such as in the food industry, or when we are mixing soap. Everywhere we see products that require the mixing of many components in order to generate the required product homogeneity. To achieve this, it is not enough to use a typical industrial mixer like in the chemical industry. It’s like you have a spoon and you want to use a spoon in your in your kitchen; is the requirement a high level of mixing or high intensity of mixing?

With the high shear rate homogenizer (rotor stator), what we try to provide to you is the capability to characterize this equipment as a function of the level of homogeneity in the space and in the target that you will be able to generate. This model is unique in the world because when we’re presenting you the results that we get in our rotor stator equipment or high shear homogenizer in our software, we actually measure the force that is applied for the equipment in different media. This is not coming from some assumption that if we have a very short distance between the rotor and the stator that the shear rate will be linear, which is really not the situation. We measure exactly the force applied for different kinds of geometries and equipment in order to generate the capability of the equipment to create homogeneity according to the input material. To develop the software, we spent about three years of deeply understanding the phenomena, modelling, and measuring the real situation for typical rotor stator equipment. We use equipment like Silverson; this equipment can be sourced from many suppliers and the application is well-known to parents. For example, mothers may prepare soup for their child using a rotor stator It’s a cooking mixer for the kitchen but it’s the same idea. Try to apply high velocity with a component that is moving very fast and one that is not moving; then, the material is entering this part and spreading well through all the components in order to achieve homogeneity or to break up solids. All of this is well explained. In the software, we’re able to traduce it in engineering and numbers, giving you the ability to understand different scenarios or geometries or materials and determine what will be the level and time required for it.
